PHYSICAL THERAPY

Pelvic floor therapy focuses on healing various pelvic dysfunctions, which can include incontinence, low back pain, dyspareunia (pain with penetration), urinary frequency & urgency, core weakness, and more.

Many women limit their activities due to orthopedic injuries or pelvic floor dysfunction. Whether you are experiencing the everyday toll motherhood takes on your body or you sustained an injury while participating in an active lifestyle, at S&D Wellness, we create personalized treatment plans to help you regain the active, pain-free, and leak-free lifestyle you deserve.

raise with strength and dignity, mamas.

Have any of the symptoms or concerns listed above?
Strength and Dignity Wellness offers both virtual and in-office visits to address your symptoms and help you feel your best. All you need are comfy clothes, an hour of time, and the motivation to put in 10-15 minutes of work a few times a week to follow through with the plan you create with your physical therapist. Children are always welcome during PT sessions.

Every physical therapy visit is tailored to your personal needs, body, and goals. PT begins with an in-depth conversation with your physical therapist, followed by a detailed full-body physical exam personalized to your symptoms and goals. In your PT visit, you'll learn about your body's strengths and weaknesses and what you can do about them to help you feel like yourself again. Each visit will include hands-on work to bring you relief, exercise progression and modification, and homework to work on between visits.

Here are a few questions to help determine if pelvic floor rehab is right for you:

  • Do you experience leaks when you cough, exercise, lift, or run?
  • Do you frequently need to go to the bathroom when you pull into the driveway, open the door, or get ready for bed?
  • Do you have vaginal pain with penetration?
  • Are you preparing for childbirth or recovering from a recent delivery?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, pelvic floor rehab could significantly enhance your quality of life.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

Orthopedic Physical Therapy focuses on a non-surgical approach to treating your neck, shoulder, back, hip, knee, or foot/ankle injuries. If it is determined that surgery is required, physical therapy is a vital component of restoring function post-operatively.

As a mom, your body goes through incredible changes during pregnancy and postpartum. Even if you don't have a specific pain point right now, it's essential to ensure you're protecting your body to avoid future complications. Our ergonomic assessments are designed to support you in maintaining good posture and safe movement patterns during this delicate time, and beyond.

Tailored Support for Everyday Activities

Nursing/Feeding: Learn the best positions to nurse or bottle-feed your baby comfortably, minimizing strain on your back, neck, and shoulders.

Lifting: Whether you're lifting your baby, groceries, or other household items, we'll show you how to do it safely during pregnancy and postpartum.

Baby Wearing: Learn the proper techniques for wearing your baby in a carrier, ensuring both you and your little one are comfortable and supported.

How It Works

what to expect

To get the most out of your ergonomic assessment, we recommend having a tripod or a second person available to film you performing different movements during a portion of the session. This allows us to provide you with personalized feedback and adjustments to enhance your comfort and safety.

During your ergonomic assessment, we will:
  • Evaluate your current posture and movement patterns.
  • Provide personalized recommendations for improving your ergonomic habits.
  • Offer practical tips and exercises to support your body's needs during pregnancy and postpartum.

Invest in your well-being and take a proactive approach to your health during this transformative time. We are here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring you feel nurtured and supported.

Frequently Asked Questions

My kids are older now, I think I’m too far gone, can pelvic floor PT still help?

Yes! It is never too late to make a positive change for your health. After a thorough examination to determine your impairments, we will come up with a treatment plan that fits your needs and goals best.

Do I have to have an internal exam?

No! Your consent matters and you are never required to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with. You may also revoke your consent at any time.

An internal exam can give a lot of information including pelvic floor muscle, strength, endurance, coordination, and trigger points. It is also used to determine to what degree (if any) pelvic organ prolapse is present. Most of this information can be gathered from a thorough history, but depending on your symptoms it is helpful to confirm specifics through both external and internal examination.

do you take insurance?

We are out of network with all insurance companies. We are happy to provide you a SuperBill with diagnosis and treatment codes for you to submit to insurance for reimbursement. We cannot make any promises as to what your insurance will reimburse.

Staying out of network with insurance allows us to provide you with a higher quality of care without having to worry about the rules and restrictions insurance places on how we practice. We prefer to see patients one-on-one so our focus can be solely providing you with the high-level of care you deserve

How early can I be seen postpartum?

We have seen mothers as early as 1 week postpartum. Due to tissue healing timelines and infection risk, and internal exam cannot be performed until 6 weeks postpartum. That being said, starting to reconnect with your breath and core early on can help speed up your recovery. Early visits can also provide valuable education on proper lifting and feeding positions if there was an injury during birth or to avoid injury postpartum.

How often do you recommend I be seen during pregnancy?

It is always a great idea to establish care with a Pelvic Floor PT during pregnancy. In an ideal world, you would be seen at least 1x/trimester to optimize pelvic floor health and more if there are signs of dysfunction such as leaking, heaviness, symphysis pubis dysfunction, or low back pain.

It is also helpful to be seen for a birth preparation appointment between 32-36 weeks. In this appointment we will discuss the anatomy of how birth happens, exercises to optimize pelvic mobility in before and during labor, perineal massage and pushing techniques to reduce tearing, and tips for early postpartum recovery. If you would rather have access to the exercises and education online, we have a labor and delivery course, just for you! Learn more about that course: HERE.

I can’t afford to PT/I don’t have availability for regular appointments. What can I do to optimize my recovery?

First of all, congratulations for choosing to invest in yourself. My goal for this program is to make it very attainable. While this program is not a "quick fix", in my personal & professional experience, long term consistency will set you up for greater success in the long run.
